A 40-cubic-meter horizontal light diesel tank; due to the low temperatures in winter, the average temperature in the coldest months is -12 degrees, with extreme lows reaching -29 degrees. The owner wants the oil tank to be placed indoors, and they also want indoor heating, so that there is no need to install a heating device for the oil tank. I checked the relevant regulations regarding whether oil tanks can be placed indoors, but there are no clear specifications on this matter ; Personally, I think it’s possible, but it needs to be designed as an open type or a closed type with forced ventilation to ensure good air circulation inside; however, this conflicts with the requirements for indoor heating. I don’t know how to deal with this now; does anyone have any good suggestions? The owners are too assertive; it’s useless to talk to them about standards and regulations.
Lubricating oil is fine; for light diesel, I’ve only seen it used in semi-basements, where the manholes for the tanks are still on the ground level. In such cases, the exhaust gases are released directly into the atmosphere, while basements require mechanical ventilation. It is no longer recommended to store light diesel tanks indoors, as it poses safety risks; however, this can be done if the local fire and safety authorities give their approval.
Light oils are definitely not suitable; crude oil is generally not designed for use indoors either. The tank itself is placed outdoors, with pipelines used to connect it to indoor areas, which makes it feasible to use

It should be possible to build it indoors, as long as fire and static electricity prevention issues are properly addressed. Some of the owner’s requests are obviously incorrect and should be rejected, but some of them are quite reasonable.
Light diesel should be classified as a Class B liquid. If light diesel is used in process operations (in intermediate storage tanks), according to building codes, the capacity of such Class A or B storage tanks located within the facility must not exceed the amount required for one day’s use. In other cases, storage tanks are generally required to be placed outdoors.
Going back upstairs: According to the fire protection design codes, \"light diesel\" is classified as a Class B liquid among hazardous materials. However, the regulations for oil depot design state that, taking into account construction cost factors, oil depots for light diesel with grades of -30# and above can be designed as Class C A liquids.
Do as the client asks; can you explain yourself if something goes wrong?
For safety reasons, it is recommended to make it entirely underground.
