It’s extremely useful to review drawings before construction! Generally speaking, apart from those designed by very professional and experienced designers, drawings have fewer material defects. For most designers, they are always forgetful. Some of those mistakes really make you want to smash their heads (it’s understandable; design firms focus mainly on profitability). Therefore, if you have the time, be sure to carefully review the drawings and point out any omissions or lack of detail by the design institute during the design briefing. I think there are several major advantages: 1. The visa can be processed in the form of records from the drawing review at the time of that review, which is both fast and efficient. It saves the owner and supervisor the trouble of \"swinging a big knife at you\". Generally speaking, design institutes are quite easy to work with. 2. Purchase and replenish the materials missing from the drawings as soon as possible. It will more effectively reduce the disruptions that may occur at the construction site during the building process. 3. It helps construction workers become familiar with the drawings. After reviewing the drawings once, a concept of the space has been formed in the minds of the construction workers, especially the technicians. What to do first, what to do next, and which areas require special attention. These things are very important. Unfamiliar with the drawings, one can only act like a headless fly, busy yet ineffective. 4. There is another advantage. If the design institute gives you too much material. Just enjoy it in secret! For the drawings designed by the design institute, it is of great significance for the client to conduct a review of them. Several advantages were mentioned above; of course, they mainly benefit the construction party. I would like to add a few points that are beneficial to the client side: 1. Identify defects in the drawings related to processes, piping, operations, and their compatibility with the actual site conditions, list them all together, and discuss them with the design institute to make necessary adjustments; 2. Due to the heavy design workload at the design institute, unexpected contradictions and errors are inevitable; therefore, it is even more important to communicate in advance and to produce some revision drawings ; 3. From Party A’s perspective, it is necessary to reduce investment; therefore, the main aspects of the design work related to processes, piping, equipment, civil engineering, and other fields need to be adjusted. This is where the issue mentioned in that post – “You don’t dare, but I do” – arises ; 4. From the perspective of the construction contractor, they will propose many practical adjustments based on their construction experience, which simplifies the construction process. As mentioned in the three points above, this ultimately reduces some of the contractor’s costs, resulting in a win-win situation ; 5. Although reviewing drawings is a mechanical and monotonous task, through this process one can acquire knowledge from various fields.
