Ask about career development issues for chemistry majors

Currently, I am doing research and development in a company on the edge of the oil industry. The company is too small and it is difficult to achieve results. In this situation, is it possible to jump to the direction of procurement? Another larger oil company is recruiting procurement. Is it possible to jump to it? Is it better to change direction or continue development? I would like to hear the opinions of sea friends.
I personally think that if you want to develop, you should focus on one field, so that you will naturally develop in a few years. Procurement is of course the weak point of most enterprises, and it is certainly good from the perspective of "income", but whether you can enter this field will only be known after you try it.
Procurement generally falls into the clerical category. What is needed and research and development do not seem to match.
