Seeking help with the installation of a level gauge

The level gauge, which was previously installed on the side of the storage tank, is now installed on the top of the tank; there is a straight connection piece on the tank top, with the threaded part located on the flange. The installation height of the level gauge must be 140 mm; welding the flange directly to the tank top is not sufficient. Welding a threaded flange to a straight connector will affect the appearance. Welding may affect the straightness of the wire. Do anyone else have other methods to solve this?
Just machine the threaded end with the valve gland into a threaded end that matches the straight connector, right? No welding is needed
A slight taper during processing is even better!
Since welding is possible, just cut off the straight connector and weld something new that looks good and fits properly!
