Large stainless steel pipes indicate that more acid washing was used for treatment, similar to a passivation process; after treatment, the pipes appear dull. Small stainless steel pipes are polished to make them shiny. However, many pipes are also pickled. Annealing is done to reduce the surface hardness of the tube, facilitating machining and installation.
