According to item (3) of clause 4.5.3.1 of the new regulations, surface inspection of the welded joints of pipe socket fillets is required, whereas under previous standards (such as GB150) it was only necessary under specific circumstances. Has the requirement been tightened? Do both MT and PT need to be done on both sides? Could an expert please help explain this? Thank you! !
Theoretically, surface inspection of the joint means that both the front and back sides of the joint need to be inspected; in practice, however, it’s not clear what the situation is.
Since pipe sockets are being used, it can be considered a “specific situation”. Compared to before, I don’t think the new capacity regulations have raised the requirements. PT should be done on both sides. MT is rarely used on both sides, especially for some smaller or more complex joints, as it is not possible to apply MT from the inside.
The pipe seat here doesn’t refer to a pipe connector, right? It refers to something like a reinforcement pipe or a pressure gauge holder – is my understanding correct?
Reply to 5# baijianfeng: The pipe socket fillet weld is actually a Type D joint.
Agree with the view from the 3rd floor. PT should be done on both sides. MT is rarely used on both sides, especially for some smaller or more complex joints, as it is not possible to apply MT from the inside.
