In ASME, there is a distinction between ferrous materials and non-ferrous materials. What exactly are ferrous materials, and what does “iron” refer to in this context?
1. Iron-based materials are metal alloys in which iron is the main component; various metals can be added to them to meet different requirements. Iron-based materials are commonly referred to as ferrous metals. 2. Non-ferrous base materials refer to non-ferrous metals. Such as nickel, copper, aluminum, etc.; iron is not a major component.
