The factory has processes that require circulating cooling water. When selecting a water pump, some people recommended direct-drive centrifugal pumps (without couplings), in which the motor shaft is extended to directly drive the impeller. I’m wondering how such pumps perform when operated at full load for extended periods of time.
I guess your pump isn’t very large. If it’s only used for circulating water, with low temperatures and pressures and stable operating conditions, then connecting it directly is also feasible; after all, it’s just a water pump
It’s okay; we’ve used it in our heat exchange station. It’s a complete unit that includes directly-connected pumps, and its performance is satisfactory.
Direct-connected water pumps do have many advantages, but they have one major drawback: once corrosion or pitting occurs at the mechanical seal of the shaft, leakage can occur easily and it is not easy to repair.
Monitor the motor bearing temperature during operation. The manufacturer can be asked to add this measurement point, either locally or via remote transmission.
Direct-connected water pumps do have advantages such as fewer vulnerable components, simpler alignment, and less space requirement. However, if the mechanical seal leaks severely, it can threaten the safe operation of the motor. Furthermore, the instability of the pump (cavitation, gas entrapment, impeller imbalance) directly affects the operating quality of the motor.
There’s no problem; it’s just troublesome to repair.
