Biocatalytic technology is an advanced technology that uses microorganisms or enzymes as catalysts for the transformation of substances. It enables the large-scale production of chemicals, pharmaceuticals, energy sources, materials, and other products needed by humanity. It serves as an essential tool for transitioning from a fossil (hydrocarbon)-based economy to a biological (organic) economy, and it is also an effective means of addressing the resource, energy, and environmental crises facing humanity today. “The \"2010 Symposium on Bioprocess Materials Technology and Industry Development\" will be held on August 17, 2010, to bring together domestic experts, entrepreneurs, engineers, as well as officials from relevant regulatory agencies to conduct in-depth discussions on the above topics. This will help to clarify the current status of research, development, and production of bioprocess materials in China, as well as its future prospects and directions, so as to better address the opportunities and challenges posed by the development of the bioeconomy and promote the rapid growth of China’s biomaterials industry. At that time, the expert panel of the seminar will recommend a selection of outstanding projects that are in line with the low-carbon economy and have potential for development to the relevant authorities, in order to secure financial support from them.
