Construction of insulated pipelines

During the construction of insulated pipelines, when foam glass is used for insulation at valves, elbows, flanges, and other components, splicing is generally employed; however, this results in certain gaps that need to be filled. The materials that can be used for filling are not specified explicitly in the insulation standards. I’ve heard of asphalt tar and glass fiber, but there are no relevant standards; I would appreciate advice from those with extensive construction experience.
We don’t have any protections at the valves, flanges, etc
Generally, specialized molds should be used for insulating components such as pipes and valves to ensure both the insulation performance and the appearance quality. However, many insulation companies are relatively small and do not follow standard construction practices; as a result, they use patchwork methods, which results in poor insulation performance and an unsatisfactory appearance.
Sealing gaps with asphalt mastic is quite common
During the on-site construction, the contractor used asphalt tar for filling
