Some thoughts on the temperature of converter furnaces:

Today I saw a post asking for help regarding abnormal temperature readings in conversion furnaces. At present, many methanol production facilities that use coke oven gas shorten the thermocouple sleeves in an attempt to prevent the thermocouples from being damaged, which results in delayed responses from these thermocouples during production and renders their readings meaningless. As a result, the temperature displayed for the furnace bed is lower than it actually is; the shortened thermocouple sleeves prevent accurate measurement of the true temperature of the coal contact layer. In my opinion, the thermocouple sleeves should not be shortened. Everyone here can share their own views as well, so we can discuss this issue together.
It seems that the thermocouple shouldn’t be shortened; the insulation layer of the converter is already quite thick, and this already affects the measurement of the furnace temperature. Shortening it further will only increase the error in temperature measurement. Two out of the 3 temperature sensors in our plant’s conversion furnace have already stopped working; it comes down to the operations at the first point of the conversion furnace, but there’s no mention of shortening the thermocouples.
