Our synthesis furnace sometimes experiences sudden, minor leaks. This has happened several times; usually, the leaks occur when the flux level is high – generally at the maximum flux level specified. It’s not a severe issue, but there is smoke generated, so it cannot be ignored. However, once the flux level is reduced, the leaks stop within a few minutes. And once the flux level is increased again, no leaks occur. Of course, this situation can repeat itself frequently; sometimes even tightening the area where the leak occurs doesn’t help much. I wonder if anyone else has encountered such problems? What do people think are the common reasons for this? Thank you!
Are you referring to the hydrogen chloride synthesis furnace or the trichlorosilane synthesis furnace? Where exactly is the leak? Everything said is not clear at all
The key is pressure; if the pressure is properly controlled, there are still defects in the equipment – some flanges may have corroded sealing surfaces, and when the pressure increases, well… haha
I believe the poster is referring to the **leakage** in the fluidized bed reactor. This phenomenon is understandable for two reasons: first, the sealing surface at the leakage site is uneven, or the gasket is damaged; II. The thermal and mechanical tightening were not done properly; when the flux is high, more heat is released naturally, and local expansion leads to uneven sealing surfaces. It is recommended to tighten the bolts in both cold and hot conditions, as well as when there is a large temperature difference.
Reply to 4# 010211: However, after a leak occurs, for some furnaces, the tightness of the bolts doesn’t seem to have much impact, because the pressure drops for a while during the leak, and then rises again; it won’t leak for some time! Generally speaking, tightening is useful, but sometimes it isn’t helpful at all; in such cases, reducing the amount first and then increasing it again proves to be more effective!
