As the title suggests, I believe that these two types of valves are used in large quantities in production. Everyone is free to speak their minds; it’s okay if what they say isn’t comprehensive or slightly off! !
One is shut-off, and the other is adjustable. Gate valves are generally used in multiple locations at the inlet, while globe valves are used in multiple locations at the outlet
There is a current issue in the company’s production area: the outlet valve of the sulfur foam temporary storage tank is a globe valve, which often gets clogged; this problem was resolved by replacing it with a gate valve! The reason is that the foam in this channel contains sulfur paste or lumps; since the stop valve used allows flow from bottom to top at the outlet, the passage is not straight, which increases the likelihood of blockages. After replacing the gate valve, the fluid path becomes straight-through, reducing the likelihood of blockages.

Globe valves have low flow resistance, are non-directional, and allow flow in both directions; they primarily serve to shut off flow in pipelines; On the other hand, a stop valve allows fluid to flow in only one direction; it has a specific installation orientation, presents high flow resistance, and its sealing reliability is not strong over time.
The sealing surfaces of gate valves are prone to wear; frequent opening and closing will significantly shorten their lifespan and lead to leaks! Due to its conical cross-section, globe valves experience less wear when opened and closed! Gate valves take up a lot of space, so they are used in places where they need to be opened and closed infrequently and where there is sufficient space! I’m only talking about the disadvantages of gate valves!
This issue has been discussed many times by marine enthusiasts; I can explain it briefly: Relatively speaking, globe valves have better sealing properties, superior control performance compared to gate valves, and require less space; Gate valves are easy to open and close, have low flow resistance, but poor sealing performance, and basically lack any adjustment capability
