During the production process, many pieces of equipment in chemical plants get damaged or become unusable for various reasons, and repairs cannot be completed in a timely manner, which makes operations very difficult. In such cases, is it possible to collect oil samples in this way? Or there might be a better way to collect it.
Sure, we’ve done this before; moreover, some processes are designed without any sampling points. Depending on the needs of production, it is sometimes necessary to monitor certain parameters, and in such cases temporary drain sampling is used. But it’s important to ensure that the opening degree of the drain valve remains low. Actually, it would be best to create a temporary sampling head: one can select a flange that matches the size of the flanges used in the device’s general drainage system, and then find a way to connect a short section of 1/8-inch pipe to use as a temporary sampler, which would be safer.

I’m not sure whether the hot oil you’re referring to is soluble in water; if it isn’t, a certain amount of water can be added to the sampling bottle in advance. Of course, weight must be taken after adding the water, as the mass of this water can be measured (it’s impossible to analyze your sample without knowing its weight). The water serves to cool the sample and prevent it from evaporating (provided that the density of the hot oil is greater than that of water). If it does not meet what I mentioned above, then considering adding a sampling cooler is necessary.
