It is the only large-scale comprehensive research and development institution as well as a technology innovation hub in China’s coal industry. Originally it was a research institution under the Ministry of Coal Industry; in July 1999 it was transformed into a science and technology enterprise directly under the central government. Following reforms and reorganizations in June 2008, CCRI became a wholly-owned subsidiary of China National Coal Group Corporation. After 50 years of development and construction, and particularly over the 30 years since the policy of reform and opening up, the Coal Science and Technology Institute has grown into an innovation and R&D center in the field of coal science, technology, and engineering. It boasts a comprehensive range of disciplines, well-structured specializations, clear research directions, strong scientific and technical capabilities, and leading research achievements, enjoying high recognition and significant influence on the international stage. I. Organizational Structure At present, the Coal Science and Technology General Institute has 1 holding subsidiary and 16 wholly-owned subsidiaries. Headquartered in Beijing, it has 7 research institutes, 3 research centers, and 1 holding company outside Beijing, located in major cities such as Shanghai, ##, Xi’an, Taiyuan, Fushun, Tangshan, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Huaibei, and Changzhou. II. Human Resources: The Coal Science Research Institute boasts strong human resources and considerable overall strength. It currently has over 7,200 employees, including 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 6 specially appointed part-time academicians, 2 middle-aged and young experts who have made outstanding contributions at the ** level, and 8 candidates selected under the New Century Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talents Program. Scientific and technical personnel account for 65.3% of the total workforce. The institution has 5 post-doctoral research stations, 2 doctoral degree awarding programs, and 10 master’s degree awarding programs, and it serves as a key force driving innovation in China’s coal industry. Since 1990, 624 individuals have received the **special allowance** awarded by ***. Among the professional and technical staff currently in service, there are 224 researchers, 855 senior engineers, 63 doctors, and 717 masters. At present, the headquarters has 56 doctoral students and 142 master’s students. III. Research Directions: The Coal Science Research Institute is primarily engaged in scientific research in areas such as coal resource exploration, mine construction, coal mining, coal mine safety, coal mining machinery, coal mine automation, blasting technology, coal environmental protection and clean processing, as well as coal mine information and economic management. Its research covers virtually all the professional and technical fields within the coal industry. IV. Scientific and Technological Resources: The Coal Science Research Institute boasts strong advantages in terms of scientific and technological resources, fulfilling the dual roles of a **technology innovation hub and a research institute for the group company. There are 24 key laboratories for the coal industry, 7 **-level and 10 industry-level product quality supervision and inspection centers, 12 **-level safety production testing and inspection institutions, and 2 **-level mining metrology calibration institutions. Additionally, there are 2 **-level engineering technology research centers, such as the ** Coal Mine Safety Technology Engineering Research Center and the Water-Coal Slurry ** Engineering Technology Research Center, as well as institutions like the Anbiao ** Mine Product Safety Certification Center. V. Scientific Research Achievements: The Coal Science Research Institute has always been the main entity responsible for tackling scientific and technological challenges in the industry, as well as a key driver of technological progress within it. Over the past 50 years since its establishment, the institute has achieved more than 5,600 scientific research results, and won over 1,000 national and provincial/municipal awards for scientific and technological progress as well as invention awards.
