Does commercial activated carbon need to be pre-treated before it can be used for adsorption?

Regarding activated carbon adsorption, various sources indicate that the activated carbon should be soaked in acid for 24 hours, then rinsed with deionized water and dried. This method can be used for small-scale applications, and it has been shown that activated carbon treated in this way exhibits a better adsorption capacity compared to untreated activated carbon. But if a large amount of activated carbon is used for water treatment, and tons of it are involved, does it need to be treated in the same way? It seems like the workload would be quite heavy and unmanageable. I think activated carbon itself has already been activated, so it’s not very practical to carry out such treatment on a large scale.
May I ask which materials state this? I want to learn it too*. Personally, I think activated carbon is what results from using those treatment methods you mentioned; it can be bought and used straight away. Even if special treatment is required, just make a request and have the activated carbon manufacturer handle it. No need to do it yourself.
