As the title suggests: What does a channel mean in process control system management? What is its relationship with I/O points? Please help to explain
A channel, as the name implies, is a path for signal transmission; an I/O point is provided by field instruments or electrical devices and is external in nature. I/O points are connected to the DCS through channels, forming a complete control system; one I/O point corresponds to one channel.
The channel is the wiring terminal on the module! I/O refers to the module’s input and output terminals!
Thank you all above :) I have one more question: does a separate ledger need to be created for the passages?
1 IO channel is not a complete device; it is merely a component of an IO module. It should be impossible to establish a ledger, right?
A channel is the unit interface through which the I/O card processes I/O signals; one I/O point corresponds to one channel.
For future expansion, the number of channels is generally 10% to 20% higher than the actual number of IO points. By \"channels,\" it means there are many places where IO points can be placed; whether to do so or not depends on actual needs.
Thank you all above; I understand a bit better now – I should focus on managing the number of IO points.
I think the statement that one IO point occupies one channel is not accurate. For example, in a Siemens analog input module with 8 points and 4 channels, can it be said that one analog signal occupies one channel? I’m not entirely sure about this either; I would appreciate some guidance from those who are more knowledgeable.
