Our plant’s pressure swing adsorption design calls for a capacity of 30,000 cubic meters, but in practice the actual capacity never exceeds 20,000 cubic meters, and it’s also difficult to maintain this level of capacity over long periods of time – which is quite a problem. Especially when the company tries to increase the production of liquid ammonia, the adsorption process fails to handle the increased flow rate, which is really frustrating. How is the situation at other plants? Could anyone share their experiences?
Our unit is designed with a pressure swing adsorption system having a capacity of 70,000 Nm³/h; in actual operation, it has exceeded this design capacity yet still performs well.
There must be something wrong. Check it carefully.
In pressure swing adsorption systems, a low pressure absorption pressure often results in reduced processing capacity; this issue also occurs in pressure swing adsorption systems that do not have segmented design. Additionally, there are problems related to programmable valves.
How many years has the device owned by the original poster been in use? Under normal circumstances, it should be disassembled and the adsorption tower checked every 2-3 years. If it is found that the wear of the adsorbent has decreased, it must be replenished immediately; otherwise, it is normal for its capacity to fall below the designed level.
Where was yours designed? There must be a problem; several units I’ve seen are operating under overload conditions yet still function properly.
