I translated coal-based substitute natural gas as coal-based SNG. What do you all think?

The common term used is coal-derived SNG BTW; coal-based natural gas isn’t considered a substitute for natural gas – it is actually natural gas itself. Over 90% of natural gas consists of methane, and coal-based natural gas is produced by converting coal gas into syngas, which is then used to produce methane.
S does not refer to syngas, but rather to synthetic; SNG is synthetic natural gas

In fact, COAL-TO-LIQUID (CTL) and CTG are both recognized technical terms, with research on them beginning after World War I. Only professional terms that meet the standards increase the likelihood of being included by international academic institutions. It is also easier for communication.
Snowman version: I usually deal a lot with CTL/GTL. Generally, when people talk about CTL/GTL/CTG, they are referring to a certain process, such as the production of fuel/diesel from CTL/GTL
