After several months of technical upgrades, Hebei Dongan Company’s biodiesel production line utilizing low-pressure acid catalysis technology was put into operation. To date, more than 200 tons of product have been successfully produced; the product is essentially colorless, has an acid value of around 1.5, and an yield of 90% (derived from used cooking oil). Low-pressure acid catalysis technology is still not widely used in China at present. The company decided to set up a low-pressure production line at the end of last year; it took 3 months to complete the renovation of all the equipment, and the process was highly successful, with the first trial run succeeding right away. The successful trial run of this company demonstrates that low-pressure acid-catalyzed biodiesel technology is fully mature in our country, proving that low-pressure glass-lined equipment can fully meet the basic requirements for biodiesel production. Such equipment boasts significant advantages in terms of corrosion resistance and pressure tolerance. Compared with other existing technical approaches, the low-pressure acid catalysis method offers advantages such as lower investment costs, reduced energy consumption, less methanol usage, stable product quality, and rapid sedimentation.
This process is effective for both fatty acids and neutral oils; in actual production, no restrictions are placed on the acid value of the raw materials, and an acidic composite catalyst is used.
