What is the difference between a drum and a split cylinder?

There is a big difference: a drum is used to separate the steam-water mixture or to produce hot water, while a steam distributor simply directs the steam to different areas where it can be utilized.

1. The drum, also known as the boiler drum, is an important component of natural circulation boilers and forced multi-circulation boilers. Its main functions are: (1) to connect the downcomers, water wall, header, outlet pipes, etc., to form a closed water circulation loop. (2) A certain amount of water and steam is stored in the drum, which serves as an energy storage mechanism; when the load changes, it helps to buffer against imbalances in evaporation volume and feedwater volume, as well as changes in steam pressure. When the load increases, the steam pressure drops; at this point, the water that is already in a saturated state can vaporize a portion of itself, thereby slowing down the rate of decline in steam pressure. Of course, this effect becomes less and less significant as the steam parameters increase and the boiler size grows. (3) The drum is equipped with devices such as a steam-water separation unit and a steam cleaning unit, which enable effective steam-water separation, steam cleaning, chemical dosing, and sludge removal, thereby ensuring the quality of the steam and the water inside the boiler. (4) *Center for the collection and distribution of furnace steam and water. The steam distribution cylinder is a key auxiliary device of the boiler; it is used to distribute the steam generated during boiler operation to various pipelines. The steam distribution cylinder is a pressure-bearing device, classified as a pressure vessel, and its pressure resistance capacity must be appropriate for the boiler it is used with.
