Currently, chloromethane is widely used in the market, but its supply as a raw material is unstable. We are exploring inexpensive synthesis routes for chloromethane using methanol as the main raw material; experts are invited to discuss this.
There are mainly two raw materials used in the industrial production of chloromethane: 1. Methanol 2. Methane
The raw materials for the direct synthesis method are methanol and hydrogen chloride gas; the hydrogen chloride gas is obtained by desorbing hydrochloric acid, and after being mixed with vaporized methanol, it enters the synthesis reactor. There, it bubbles through a gas distributor and reacts in a zinc chloride solution with a concentration of 70%–75% (by weight) at temperatures between 140°C and 165°C to produce chloromethane. The main and side reaction equations are as follows: CH3OH + HCl → CH3Cl + H2O; 2CH3OH → CH3OCH3 + H2O; CH3OCH3 + 2HCl → 2CH3Cl + H2O. The molar ratio of the reactants is CH3OH:HCl = 1:1.05–1.10, with the ratio of hydrogen chloride to methanol being controlled by the flow signals from the flow meters on those pipelines. This reaction is exothermic, and the heat of reaction is carried away by the vaporization of water inside the reactor. The mixture exiting the synthesis reactor enters the chloromethane reflux condenser where it is condensed; thereafter, an air-liquid separator is used to remove any foam. The mixture is then condensed in a chloromethane cooler, and the methanol, hydrogen chloride, and water contained therein are removed ; The chloromethane reflux condenser is condensed using hot water at 80°C. The flow rate of cooling water to the reflux condenser is controlled by a level signal from the gas-liquid separator. The condensate discharged from the chloromethane reflux condenser is returned to the gas-liquid separator to be used as make-up water for the synthesis reactor. The condensate formed in the chloromethane cooler, along with the uncondensed gases, enters the wash tower. The liquid level in the synthesis reactor is controlled by the signal output from the level sensor, which adjusts the opening degree of the control valve located on the pipeline at the bottom of the gas-liquid separator. The hot water from the chloromethane reflux cooler is cooled by circulating water in a hot water heat exchanger before entering the hot water tank, where it is then pumped back to the chloromethane reflux cooler for reuse.
Hello, friend upstairs – which manufacturers in China produce this product? Could you let me know?
