Liquid nitrogen washing is used to remove certain substances; the cold box in the Brown process must also be a type of liquid nitrogen washer, right? Does the device that has been washed with liquid nitrogen undergo methanation?
This post was last edited by 654262293 on 2010-9-17 at 16:08. Liquid nitrogen washing can remove CH3OH, CO2, CO, and CH4 from the purified gas. After such washing, there is virtually no CO or CO2 left, so methanation is no longer necessary.

The friend above is absolutely right; liquid nitrogen washing can remove methane, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, methanol, as well as trace amounts of hydrogen sulfide and organic sulfur from the purified gas. After this liquid nitrogen treatment, the gas becomes syngas with a H2:N2 ratio of 3:1, with virtually no other gas components remaining. Therefore, there is no need for further methanation steps for purification.
