For the outlet check valves of the new hydrogen and recycled hydrogen compressors in our company, we have noticed significant noise coming from within the valve bodies during compressor operation. These check valves are of the lift-type design; we would appreciate it if you could help us analyze the cause of this issue
Is what the poster is referring to a piston compressor? If it’s a dialogue, the main issue lies in the installation direction; the phenomenon you described is likely due to an incorrect selection.
Try replacing the check valve; if the problem is resolved after the replacement, then it’s a valve issue.
It is recommended to remove the valve to check whether any components have come loose, as well as to determine whether the pressure behind the valve is higher than the pressure in front of it. These two issues have occurred at the outlet of our new hydrogen (recharge hydrogen) compressor.

Reply to 1# sxd2855898: 1. Does the person who posted the question mean it’s a newly installed device, or one that has been in use for a long time? 2. What is the type of compressor? 3. Is there a buffer tank behind the compressor? 4. If it was not available before but is now available, please check whether the check valve is damaged ; If it has always been this way, then you might want to consider whether the volume of your buffer tank is too small, preventing it from performing its buffering function; as a result, the airflow passing through the check valve becomes pulsatory, and the repeated opening and closing of the check valve causes such noise.
This issue is quite common; it’s just that the problem presented by the original poster is more severe. Try solving it as follows: 1. Check and calculate whether the flow rate is low (compared to the design value); this should be the main factor, and we have verified this. 2. Open the one-way valve and check the wear condition of its guide groove and guide rod; if the wear is significant, appropriate repairs or replacement of parts should be carried out. 3. If these problems are detected, the simplest solution is to replace the safety valve; do not choose this type of valve. Choose a spring or something else. . . . . .
The mistake was to replace it with a single-flow valve.
In response to the original poster: if the check valve is damaged, it should be removed for repair or replaced. The latter option depends on the method of starting the compressor as well as the actual conditions on site; the opening degree of the compressor’s inlet valve and outlet valve will both have an impact. As long as these settings are adjusted properly and the pressure behind the valve remains lower than the pressure in front of it, everything will be fine. There is another possibility mentioned by the poster: a problem with the compressor itself, such as leaks in the packing. In such cases, the pressure behind the valve will be higher than the pressure in front of the valve, as the compressor is unable to generate enough pressure. Another issue could be related to the air valves in the buffer tank of the compressor; it is recommended to remove them for inspection. These are basically the situations we encounter.
