What is the typical operating flexibility of ammonia synthesis plants?
The operating flexibility of ammonia synthesis plants is generally between 30% and 120%
The efficiency of new units is generally between 60% and 110%. A load that is too low means that some towers cannot operate; as a result, the overall energy consumption per unit of product increases, leading to losses for the business.
The ammonia synthesis load ranges from 60% to 120%, while the urea production load ranges from 70% to 120%. Factors that generally affect the load include the temperature of the ammonia synthesis catalyst bed, the gas-liquid ratio in the tower, and the system pressure drop.
The load is between 60% and 120%
We have been operating at full capacity with compressors equivalent to 10 units of L3.3, producing 115 tons of synthetic ammonia per day, with production running fairly normally. The mercury column is kept at 390 mm.
Reply to 6# Chemical Gas Purification: May I ask the moderator why the mercury column level is set so high? Won’t the Roots blower experience overcurrent? What is your target value for the mercury column level?
Different processes result in different levels of elasticity. In the case of two-stage processes, the operating flexibility can range from 40% to 120%. When the process load is below 40%, it is difficult to maintain a stable inlet temperature, leading to significant fluctuations. The lower the load, the higher the overall energy consumption per ton of ammonia produced. The most optimal process load is around 105%, as this results in the lowest overall energy consumption. It is possible to operate at higher loads as well, but the process parameters may experience large variations, which could prove to be counterproductive.
Reply to 7# Yan Qiusheng: There’s nothing I can do about it; it was already like this when it arrived. The goal is just to achieve a certain production volume – the current consumption of the Roots pump remains within limits, but that of the compressor exceeds the allowed levels. It will be fine once the large compressor is put into operation; there is a pressure alarm interlock device.
The normal load ranges from 60% to 110%, and the synthesis tower has a large degree of flexibility, which offers great potential.
The synthetic load is generally 50%-110%
