Differences in operation, inspection, maintenance, as well as advantages and disadvantages between the three-in-one type (where three cooling stages share one casing) sulfur coolers and the separate-type sulfur coolers. Please send over the equipment layout diagrams for the two types of sulfur coolers.

Advantages: It requires less space, reduces the number of control circuits (three separate controls are needed for level and pressure, while one combined unit only needs one level control and one pressure control), thereby saving on investment costs. Disadvantage: The pipelines are too concentrated, leaving little space for maintenance ; It is not conducive to precise control of the process gas outlet temperature; under conditions of excessively high activity and low levels, having the same configuration at the third stage of the process gas outlet hinders sulfur recovery ; It’s difficult to determine and locate tube bundle leaks ;

Generally, no companies use it, as the pipelines are too concentrated, which makes maintenance and troubleshooting difficult. As far as I know, only Zhenhai Refining & Chemical uses this three-in-one device; people there are actively involved in its use
I saw the same thing at Maoming Petrochemical; it is said to have been designed based on Zhenhai Refining & Chemical.

Although the three-in-one system occupies less space and requires less investment, it has only one level control. In comparison, the temperature in the first cooling stage is higher, which results in more sulfur being carried to the first rotation stage; as a result, the system pressure is higher. Grade-controlled operation can increase the overall sulfur recovery conversion rate by 0.5–1%, results in lower system pressure, and makes it easier to control the temperatures of the three-stage coolers.
The issue of carrying excessive sulfur to the first stage arises; can this be resolved by installing more sulfur collectors in the outlet pipeline of the 3-in-1 sulfur cooler?
If space is not a constraint, try to avoid using the three-in-one design, as leakage problems with sulfur coolers are very difficult to eliminate.
