For example, the separation of organic liquids from water is carried out using sedimentation methods – theoretically, centrifugation could also be used, but it isn’t employed in practice. This is likely because, first, it is difficult to design such systems, and second, a stable feed stream is required; if the operating conditions are unstable, no matter how well the system is designed, it will be ineffective due to these changing conditions.

Cyclone separators are divided into traditional single-cylinder, large-diameter cyclones and multi-factor, small-tube cyclones; the latter have a much higher separation efficiency and precision than the former, and are primarily used for solid-gas separation as well as gas-liquid separation in applications with lower requirements. Solid and liquid particles exit through the opening at the bottom of the cyclone tube, separating from the main airflow. Hydrocyclones are also divided into traditional single-tube, large-diameter hydrocyclones and multi-factor, small-tube hydrocyclones; the latter have a much higher separation efficiency and precision than the former, and are primarily used for high-demand gas-liquid separation tasks. Structurally, it is essentially a cylindrical cyclone separator with continuous defects in its wall; the liquid flow separates from the main flow through these continuous defects on the wall. Droplets leave the main flow before completing any 360° spiral path, resulting in high efficiency; however, its cost is higher than that of similar cyclone separators.
