My company has a pump; the outlet pipe is made of PVC with a small diameter. A PVC ball valve is installed at the outlet, and a glass rotameter is placed behind that ball valve. However, when the valve was opened, the rotameter broke. I wonder if the valve itself isn’t suitable for this purpose. Are there any better valves that could be used in this application? Without replacing the pump. The fluid inside the pipe is methylal
The flow meter has burst; it’s probably because the pressure setting for the flow meter was set too low
The outlet flow rate of the pump is too high; the selected flow meter model is incorrect – replace it with another flow meter
The pressure resistance rating of the glass tube rotameter is not high enough
Replace the valve. Gradually increase the flow rate. The flow meter burst because the valve was opened too quickly and to an excessive degree
Use a valve with better flow rate control!
Ball valves are quick-opening valves; it is recommended to use gate valves instead, which would be better. Also, it is necessary to check whether the pressure rating of the flow meter meets the requirements; if not, replacing it with another valve will still result in leaks.
Glass rotameters do not have a sufficient pressure resistance; it is better to use ones with the required pressure rating, or replace them with other types of flowmeters such as metal rotameters...:victory:
Reply to 2#: It’s clear that the issue with valve Mingming is related to a mismatch between the pressure and flow rate indicated by the flow meter and those at the pump outlet; therefore, the selection of components needs to be revised. Additionally, when starting the pump for the first time, the opening degree of the valve before the pump also needs to be adjusted.
