When the orifice plate box on the coke oven gas branch pipe is opened, a spring coil shaped like an “Ω” can be seen. What is this? What is its use?

It is used to secure the orifice plate, and it must be compressed tightly when in use. There are also U-shaped versions, but they generally have two protrusions on them, whose purpose is to compress the orifice plate. Of course, these protrusions need to fit into the grooves on the orifice plate holder in order to function properly. This depends on one’s specific requirements
The Ω-shaped clamps serve another purpose as well: they prevent the large orifice plates from getting clogged. When you open the orifice plate holder, you will see a lot of debris around the Ω-shaped clamps inside it. If two identical orifice plates are inserted into the holder separately, they can also be used to secure the orifice plates; however, this approach can easily lead to clogging of the large orifice plates! So you must use an Ω clip!
