I’m not sure; could it be due to the parameters such as steam temperature and pressure changing constantly?
Orifice plate flow meters are commonly used to measure steam flow rates. Usually, the operating conditions for steam differ significantly from the design conditions, as evidenced by differences in steam pressure and temperature. These factors lead to substantial variations in density between the operating conditions and those specified in the design, making it difficult to obtain accurate measurements. The accuracy of steam flow can be improved by adding temperature and pressure compensation measures. It is equally important that both the pressure tap tube and the water seal tank for steam measurement are properly installed and operated.
The steam flow rate generally requires compensation for temperature and pressure, and the pressure of the steam is usually closely related to the pressure in the steam pipeline network. Changes in the pressure of the steam pipeline network will inevitably affect the pressure of the steam within the system, and such pressure changes lead to variations in the saturation temperature of the steam, resulting in inaccurate steam flow rates.
Steam flow meters have temperature and pressure compensation; if the steam contains impurities, or if the temperature or pressure changes, the steam flow will change as well
This is mainly because changes in steam pressure cause the steam temperature to change, leading to fluctuations in the steam flow rate and resulting in inaccurate steam flow measurements.
Steam flow is measured using an orifice plate flow meter, and although such meters are designed and manufactured to operate under optimal conditions, deviations still occur. In most cases, the flow indication of conventional steam flow meters tends to be high as pressure decreases.
Whether the installation location of the flow meter meets the requirements of the instrument, including the installation method (horizontal or vertical, with horizontal being the usual option), the requirements regarding straight pipe sections before and after the meter (which must be satisfied; otherwise, measurement errors will occur), and whether it was installed correctly during construction.
For fluids with large fluctuations in temperature and pressure, even with compensation, the impact on measurements is significant, and inaccurate readings are normal.
Pressure fluctuations and temperature fluctuations – it’s normal for there to be some inaccuracies.
