By reviewing some literature, it was found that on most of the trays in many distillation columns, the composition curves of the distillate are flat; doesn’t this mean that most of these trays fail to achieve separation? Are there other reasons? Please share your opinions! Thank you!

If the curve is relatively flat, it is possible to reduce the number of trays appropriately, thereby lowering costs and energy consumption
I think it’s a problem with the precision of the decimal places set when defining the curves. For example, the nitrogen purity at the top of the lower column can reach the ppm level, and the changes in the temperature across the upper trays are very small; if the curve you draw in that area is close to the top, it will definitely appear as a straight line
