Do self-regulating butterfly valves have a flow direction?

Do self-regulating butterfly valves really have a flow direction issue? I remember many people telling me that the flow direction isn’t very important and doesn’t need to be considered, but I’ve seen that on butterfly valves with self-regulating mechanisms, manufacturers still mark arrows indicating the flow direction on the valve body. If, as everyone says, the flow direction isn’t important, then why is it indicated at all? What effects will there be if the installation direction is different from the flow direction indicated by the arrow on the valve body?
There is a flow direction, so the stress-bearing capacity of the valve plate must differ, right?
