The technician first measures the dimensions of the leak site: for pipe leaks, it’s the outer diameter of the pipe; for flange leaks, it’s the outer diameter of the flange. These are two relatively simple cases. Next, a model with an inner diameter matching these dimensions is made using a lathe, it is cut in half, glue injection holes are created, ears are welded on, and everything is secured with bolts. Once that’s done, it can be applied to the leak site to seal it under pressure.
