Selection of filler for hydrogen flame arresters

Strictly speaking, both materials are acceptable in the short term. But it is best to use ceramic or cobblestones; metal corrodes easily, develops rust, and can clog the flame arrester.

Hydrogen flame arresters can be made of 316L stainless steel; ready-made versions are available. Pebbles can work for a short period of time, but they will disintegrate over an extended period of use. There is significant air resistance when draining them
