In my opinion, management should be in place first, with emergency plans in place; employees should also receive regular training so that they are prepared to handle any propylene leaks. Anyone who notices any abnormalities at the site of the installation – such as hearing humming sounds near the propylene storage tanks and pipelines, seeing white mist, or smelling unusual odors – should immediately return to the control room, inform the team and the emergency response center. The emergency response center will then coordinate the deployment of firefighting and medical resources, while the team will organize personnel to handle the situation on site; in addition, the leadership should be informed as well. Regarding the method for handling propylene, I’ve heard that diluting it with steam is a good approach, and at the same time everyone must stop doing actions that can generate static electricity, such as using mobile phones. Upon detecting an acrylene leak, it is necessary to immediately inform the shift team and the emergency response center. Steam dilution works well for large-scale liquid propylene leaks; fire water can also be used to dilute the gas phase. The key is to strictly control the generation of open flames, as well as to prevent static electricity from arising due to the friction between propylene and metal pipelines during the leak. It is also necessary to shut off the valves upstream and downstream of the leak site as quickly as possible. In the event of a large-scale leak, attention must also be paid to the wind direction, and personnel as well as uninvolved people should be evacuated through the pre-designed safety routes.
