The selection depends on the current and the laying method. Single-core cables are generally used for grounding and equipotential bonding.
Many of the main power supplies from the main power distribution room to the remote power distribution room in the power plant are single-core because the cables are very thick. The electrostatic precipitator transformer is a DC transformer, which is also single-core. I haven’t noticed the two-core one. DC power distribution boards should be used frequently.
AC single-core cables must be laid in a zigzag pattern to avoid eddy currents and heat generation!
The current carrying capacity of each square cable is 3-4A.
