Steam pipeline purging

This post was last edited by sxtblo on 2010-8-21 08:03. After the steam pipes were purged and found to be in good condition, the boiler caused problems, leading to several more shutdowns. The backflow valves on the steam pipes are kept open, which allows air to enter the pipes; could this lead to rusting? Is another purge necessary?

If a long period of time has passed, it still needs to be purged
No further purging is required once purging is successful; idle pipes will have a slight amount of residue, which is not a problem and does not cause any damage to the steam turbine.
I’ve learned that, according to ASTM standards, the inner surface of pipes must be cleaned; as long as these requirements are met, it’s sufficient
It’s fine to use it for a month, but there’s uncertainty if used for a longer period.
It depends on how long you’ve stopped it; if it’s been over a week, purging should be carried out
