Some suggestions for using the HK-CMF mass flow meter during the filling of liquid chlorine tankers: 1. The HK-CMF mass flow meter should be installed as far away as possible from the filling outlet, especially avoiding installation on the operation platform. Because, on the one hand, at the beginning of filling the tank truck, due to the low pressure inside the tank, the flow rate of liquid chlorine is high; as a result, local vaporization occurs at valves, flanges, and other components near the outlet due to excessive local pressure losses. This prevents the mass flow meter from functioning properly. On the other hand, installing it in this position will inevitably introduce some external vibration disturbances into the flow meter, resulting in measurement errors. 2 The HK-CMF mass flow meters should be installed as close to the ground as possible, with solid support provided on the ground at both ends of the meters. If, due to insufficient conditions, only an overhead installation is possible, it is still essential to provide relatively stable support at both ends of the flow meter. Practice has shown that this is also very important for the proper operation of flow meters. 3 When selecting an HK-CMF mass flow meter, try to keep the usual flow rate within the range of 1/2 to 2/3 of the meter’s measurement range. To reduce measurement errors that occur toward the end of the liquid chlorine filling process, due to excessive pressure inside the tank causing an excessively low instantaneous flow rate. 4 The switching speed of the filling control valve should be kept within an appropriate range. The basis for control is to maintain the pressure of the medium in the pipeline where the flow meter is located within a stable liquid range (refer to the data in Figure 1). In cases where manual valves are used, it is possible to manually check whether the gauge reading of that pipe section falls within the allowable range. In cases where automatic valve control is used, a scheme in which the valve’s opening and closing speed is controlled by a pressure signal can be adopted. 5 All liquid chlorine transmission pipelines must be properly insulated. Our experience with multiple users who have employed HK-CMF mass flow meters for the metering of liquid chlorine filling shows that, as long as the specific characteristics of liquid chlorine filling are fully taken into account and factors that could cause errors are eliminated in advance, the error in filling measurement can be kept within 1%. The above are our experiences in using the HK-CMF Coriolis mass flow meter during the liquid chlorine filling and metering process; we hope to discuss them with our peers and users.
