I’m not very familiar with welding; I hope everyone can share their knowledge with me! I would like to ask three questions. 1. High-pressure flanges meeting US standards with a pressure rating of 600–1500 LB are quite heavy; how is centering achieved when they are welded to pipes? Is it necessary to use a fixture on the machine tool to align the pipe and the flange before welding? Should I just place the tube on the flange, estimate it visually, and then start welding after securing the weld points? 2. Can this type of high-pressure flange be designed with a shorter socket depth so that the pipe can be placed inside it for socket welding? 3. Is the weld strength between flanges and pipes higher or that of socket welding? I have some hesitation regarding this issue; I always think that the strength of socket welding is much higher. Is that true?

Regarding welding alignment, it depends on your requirements. If the standards are high, specialized fixtures can be used. If the requirements are moderate and the work is carried out on-site, tools such as a level and a set square may be sufficient for alignment.
Socket welding is generally used for pipes with smaller diameters, while butt welding is used for pipes with larger diameters. The weld strength is higher than that of butt welding. As for the strength of butt welding and socket welding, I haven’t seen any specific comparisons available, as the objects involved are different
Butt welding provides high strength; high-pressure, large-diameter pipes generally require butt welding.
It features high weld strength, as specified in GB150 and 151!
