May I ask what the structural configurations of single-column and double-column switches are, and what are the differences between them?
The so-called single-column and double-column types refer to the installation configurations of outdoor high-voltage (generally above 110 kV) isolators. Based on the structure of their insulating posts, high-voltage isolating switches can be divided into single-column, double-column, and three-column types. Among them, the single-column knife switch utilizes the vertical space directly beneath the overhead busbar as electrical insulation for the break, and therefore has the clear advantage of saving floor space, reducing the number of connecting wires, while also providing a very clear indication of the open or closed state. Therefore, single-column high-voltage isolators are more widely used!

In the double-column type, one column is used on the side of the stationary contact to connect with the busbar, and another column is used to support the movable contact as well. The horizontal space between the two columns is used as the fracture surface. The three-column type is mainly used in double-bus systems: one column with stationary contacts connects to Bus I, another column with stationary contacts connects to Bus II, and the third column contains the movable contacts, which can be connected to either Bus I or Bus II.
