Dear experts: I’ve run into a troublesome issue recently: our company needs to empty the liquid sulfur storage tanks due to a relocation. What we are cleaning is the sulfur melting tank; for reference: the procedure is as follows: 1. Remove the material to lower the liquid level as much as possible. 2. Stop the steam supply. 3. Open the manhole. 4. Cool down and ensure ventilation. 5. If the analysis shows satisfactory results, issue a permit for work in confined spaces. 6. Clean the tank. Note: 1. Be sure to wait until the sulfur has hardened before proceeding with the work. A deep hole can first be drilled into the sulfur at the bottom through the manhole for inspection. 2. Ensure good ventilation and implement shift work. 3. Pay attention to wearing protective clothing, use life ropes, ensure proper lighting, and have on-site supervision. 4. To prevent fires, some water should be poured in to stop sparks. An additional water pipe is provided. When cleaning, be careful not to damage the bottom lining of the tank, as it is difficult to repair.
