What is the distribution of coal tar in the products of delayed coking processing?
It can’t be coal tar – regardless of whether it’s at low, medium, or high temperatures, coal tar contains components with high added value such as phenols, naphthalenes, and other similar substances. Moreover, acidic and alkaline substances are mostly concentrated in the light fractions. Using such coal tar directly in delayed coking leads to corrosion and blockages in the equipment and pipelines. Additionally, the composition of the feedstock used in delayed coking is mixed, making it difficult to form coke and controlling the process challenging. As for the calculations related to the distillation tower, high-temperature coal tar pitch, after being processed through delayed coking, yields coking gas (a gas with low calorific value, whose main components are hydrogen and methane), overhead oil (mainly benzene, toluene, and xylene), light coking oil (mainly naphthalenes and methylnaphthalenes), heavy coking oil (similar to anthracene oil), and coke (pitch coke). The proportions are as follows: 64% coke, 23% heavy oil, with the remainder being overhead oil and light oil
