In the process of engineering piping design, some pipeline design departments require the equipment design team to provide information on the initial displacement of the equipment connections. I’m not sure how to request this information; does initial displacement refer to the maximum bending load that the connection can withstand at the design temperature? I would like to ask the teachers for their guidance.
The initial displacement is the displacement of the associated pipes caused by the thermal deformation of the equipment itself.
The initial displacement of the equipment nozzles should be calculated by the stress analysis engineer.
Initial displacement is not a concept related to bending loads; it refers to the lateral or longitudinal displacement of a pipe resulting from thermal expansion and contraction at the operating temperature. For example, in a tower where the fixed point is at the bottom, if the operating temperature is higher than the installation temperature, the initial displacement of the pipe’s end will be upward, and vice versa. This is just my understanding; it’s not a professional explanation.
I need this data; I’m responsible for both the equipment setup and stress analysis – I handle both of these tasks. So, is the initial displacement exactly as mentioned by the person above? Also, considering wind loads, should the initial displacement be increased by the tower’s swing amount? I seek the expertise of experts! ! !
Which standard specifies the method for calculating the initial displacement? I can calculate it, but I don’t know the source.
