Iron ions have a direct impact on the efficiency of electrowinning. However, it is said that a low level of iron ions is beneficial for the crystallization of copper at the cathode. I would appreciate guidance from those with more experience: apart from affecting the efficiency of electrowinning, do iron ions have any positive effects as well?

The presence of a small amount of ferrous ions in the electrolyte can reduce permanganic acid, preventing the solution from oxidizing organic substances. Typical electrolysis plants maintain iron ions at around 1 g/L.
