I have only been using the anthraquinone method for hydrogen peroxide production for a few days. Every time I see my colleagues adding alkali to the alkali tower, pouring in big bags of potassium carbonate. I wonder in what form potassium carbonate is ultimately removed from the system. Because I only see dilute alkali and concentrated alkali cycling
Is there anyone experienced with hydrogen peroxide who can answer this? It’s okay to provide some ideas as well
Of course, it’s consumed in the drying tower! The role of the alkali in the drying tower is to remove some water, neutralize acids (phosphoric acid is added during both the preparation of the oxidizing solution and pure water), decompose residual hydrogen peroxide, and regenerate anthraquinone degradation products. Also, after being in use for a period of time, as degradation products and phosphates accumulate, it becomes necessary to replace a portion of it.
Well, the consumption of alkali takes place in the drying tower; the drying tower is also known as the alkali tower. Its function is to neutralize acids and alkalis. Part of the alkali is consumed in this process, and moreover, the density of the alkali decreases. That’s why you see a circulation between dilute alkali and concentrated alkali
Of course, it’s consumed inside the drying tower! It neutralizes the phosphoric acid from the previous process; the circulation involves evaporating alkali in order to increase its concentration for further use!
Phosphoric acid is added before the hydrogenated liquid enters the oxidation tower to prevent the working fluid from becoming alkaline and causing the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide; the phosphoric acid added is neutralized in the drying tower.
