Let’s share our work experiences, including any insights we have, as well as any good career development paths
I haven’t graduated yet, but I’d like to ask as well. Why is no one talking?
Reply to 1# chonggangwang: I am currently working on the design of process packages, and in the future I aim to move towards detailed design. Take the technical path; switch to project management if there’s a chance.
Does one need to work in project management for many years?
Reply to 3# gltanghai: When I graduated, I wanted to work in a design institute and pursue a career in that field, but in the end I changed careers. Keep it up!
Reply to 4# sevenbb: When I first started in this field, an experienced colleague told me. In the field of chemical engineering design, one can accomplish some tasks after four or five years, and be able to work independently after seven or eight years. Project management probably also requires about a decade of experience. Technical expertise is a guarantee, while experience and knowledge are even more essential elements.
In current Chinese companies, it seems there is no such position as project management; instead, senior vice presidents are usually the ones who take direct responsibility for projects. In China today, project management exists only in name, without any actual definition or authority attached to it.
