As the title suggests, for devices of the same type, are large-scale systems more energy-efficient than small-scale ones? For example, among synthetic devices of the same type with two reaction stages, is one with an annual production capacity of 200,000 tons more energy-efficient than one with an annual production capacity of 150,000 tons?
It mainly depends on the process used in the ammonia synthesis plant, as well as its consumption levels – such as the coal, electricity, and water consumed per ton of ammonia produced. Of course, with a larger scale, the one-time investment in utility facilities is relatively reduced; this is what is known as economies of scale, which results in lower costs.
