∏How is the position of the bend guide support usually determined? One approach is to place the guide right near the elbow of the ∏ bend; some books require that there be at least 40D between the elbow and the guide. Personally, I think the latter approach is better. Please share your opinions
Generally, we add guidance at the nearest support near the elbow; if high forces are detected, we just leave some clearance. The value of 40D is probably an empirical value from the era when calculations were done manually
40D is not absolute; as long as it can be calculated, the displacement remains within the allowable range. Everything is OK
It’s 40D – the experience value can be determined based on the surrounding conditions. The same principle applies to the nearest support mentioned earlier; it depends on your pipe diameter and span length
This is specified in the standards for petrochemical pipeline layout; it should be set at 30–40DN. I think the results obtained using CAESAR are, after all, not entirely accurate in reality. When using CAESAR to calculate for an “L” shape with a long arm of 100m and a short arm of 50m, it is still possible for it to work; however, such designs are rarely implemented in actual engineering projects. After all, the values of 30–40 DN are the result of long-term experience and calculations.
Personally, I think it’s necessary to conduct an analysis based on the actual conditions. However, in practical calculations, for pipes with a larger diameter and higher temperature, I choose a range of 35D to 42D along with the use of a first guide frame, and this approach works well in real applications.
In that case, for a DN100 pipe, the extension of the arm is 40 times the DN value, which equals four meters. The distance between the two guide supports is too long; how many sliding supports are needed?
