I would like to ask everyone: what is the current situation of methanol gasoline both domestically and internationally, what are the challenges, and when will it be possible to promote its use?/
The plan to fully introduce methanol gasoline in Shaanxi Province starting from October 1 will be put on hold. The reporter learned from the National Professional Committee on Alcohol-Ether Fuels and Alcohol-Ether Clean Vehicles that, due to factors such as the refueling system and market promotion, the rollout of methanol gasoline in Shaanxi Province will be postponed. Moreover, its subsequent promotion will not see rapid widespread use across the entire province; instead, it will only be piloted in small areas of certain markets. There are uncertainties regarding market acceptance. As a major supplier of methanol-based gasoline, officials from Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum Group said that they have not yet received any notices from local authorities regarding its promotion, and the several methanol-based gasoline production facilities under their control have not yet been put into operation officially. Analysts at Xiwang Energy told reporters that in the future, the rollout of methanol gasoline in Shaanxi Province is likely to start with public gas stations, but the majority of private gas stations do not seem very enthusiastic about promoting methanol gasoline. Relevant officials from CNPC in Shaanxi also stated that as of now, the company has not received any notices regarding the promotion and implementation of methanol gasoline. In the absence of a clear stance on the promotion of methanol-blended gasoline, Wang Tianpu, President of Sinopec, stated explicitly: “We do not want M15 methanol-blended gasoline to be brought to the market.” ”The statements made by Sinopec’s senior officials seem to suggest that the further promotion of methanol gasoline will face more difficulties in the future. In response to this issue, the Shaanxi Provincial Development and Reform Commission stated that Sinopec’s lack of support will not affect the subsequent promotion and implementation of methanol gasoline in Shaanxi. It is understood that in Shaanxi Province, CNPC operates 26% of the gas stations there, while Sinopec has less than 100 such stations, accounting for around 2.3% of the total number of gas stations in the province. Additionally, Hebei Province, which had planned to introduce methanol gasoline in Tangshan on October 1 this year, is still at the preliminary planning stage, with no further specific action plans yet in place. The market is cautious about methanol gasoline. As early as 5 years ago, Shaanxi Province **formulated an overall plan for the development of methanol gasoline. On July 4, 2005, the Shaanxi Province Methanol Gasoline Leadership Group was established, marking the start of the implementation phase for the demonstration and widespread use of methanol gasoline as a fuel. The trial period lasted two years, during which trials were conducted on buses and taxis in the four cities of Yan’an, Baoji, Yulin, and Xi’an. However, during this period, **no standards for methanol gasoline were established. Coupled with concerns regarding the insufficient power output of methanol gasoline, its ability to lubricate engines, and the corrosive nature of methanol, its actual adoption was poor, and market acceptance remained moderate. Therefore, the initial rollout of methanol gasoline in Shaanxi Province was not successful. In 2007, the National Standards Committee assigned the task of establishing three standards for methanol-based gasoline. Two of these standards were to be developed by Shaanxi Province, which provided substantial financial and human resources support. Chang’an University was tasked with formulating the standard for \"modified fuel methanol.\" This standard was completed in 2008, passed various levels of review, and submitted to the National Standards Committee. Another standard, **“M15 Methanol-Blended Gasoline for Vehicles”**, was formulated based on the local technical standard system of Shaanxi Province. Although methanol gasoline still has certain issues at present, following five years of pilot research, in May 2010 the Science and Technology Department of Shaanxi Province issued Document No. Shan Ke Ji Fa 49, including the “Application and Promotion of Methanol Gasoline Production Technology” project carried out by Zhongli New Energy Co., Ltd. in the province’s 2010 science and technology research and development plan, and providing financial support for it; the project was assigned the code “2010TG-06”. Since then, the promotion of methanol gasoline was put back on the agenda in 2010. It is understood that at present, there are only about 10 private gas stations in Shaanxi that have reached cooperation agreements, with 6 in Baoji and 4 in Hanzhong. Zhang Bin, an analyst at Zhuochuang Information, told our newspaper that although there is significant policy support for this promotion, the overall market remains cautious regarding methanol gasoline. At the same time, the price of methanol gasoline is also one of the topics of concern in the market. However, the extended neutrality period has not yet determined the price of methanol gasoline; industry experts predict that it will be 300–400 yuan per ton lower than regular gasoline, leaving some profit margin. Yet, the market’s acceptance of methanol remains uncertain. Supporting policies will play a key role. As the deadline for the nationwide rollout of methanol gasoline in Shaanxi on October 1 approaches, Yanchang Zhongli New Energy Co., Ltd., as the only company designated in the province for the production and sale of methanol gasoline, has held a series of special meetings recently to refine the plans for this rollout and ensure its smooth implementation. On the morning of July 29, Yanchang Zhongli New Energy Co., Ltd. held a special meeting on the simulated promotion of methanol gasoline. In late August, the Yanchang Neutral Baoji and Hanzhong branches began visiting gas stations to plan for the promotion of methanol gasoline. According to those involved in extending neutrality, significant challenges arose during the outreach efforts in late August; the main issue was a lack of awareness among the market, resulting in unsatisfactory promotion results. To extend this neutrality initiative, a plan was established that calls for first implementing methanol gasoline in Baoji and Hanzhong, with gradual rollout across the entire province. At the same time, the Network Development Department is actively working to coordinate partnerships with gas stations such as those operated by Highway Yanchang and Transportation Yanchang in order to promote this solution together. Although the promotion of methanol-blended gasoline has received support from the ** authorities in Shaanxi Province, external factors still pose considerable challenges. Not long ago, Sinopec President Wang Tianpu stated clearly at the company’s mid-term performance briefing that \"methanol can cause health problems in humans during its use; therefore, Sinopec does not want M15 methanol gasoline with a low methanol content to be put on the market.\" Given that a high proportion of M85 methanol gasoline is available on the market, but it requires engine modifications in cars to be used, there is currently no need to promote its use. ” Zhang Bin, an analyst at Zhuochuang Information, told reporters that as Shaanxi approaches the rollout of methanol gasoline (M15), market reactions remain to be seen. Local industry experts also say that the appeal of methanol gasoline at present lies mainly in its price, but with an ample supply of gasoline across Shaanxi Province and low-priced gasoline products flooding the market, this will pose obstacles to the promotion of methanol gasoline in the short term. Zhang Bin said that, considering market conditions, the market’s acceptance of methanol gasoline is not satisfactory, and Sinopec has also made it clear that it does not support the promotion of methanol gasoline, which casts a significant shadow over its future use. However, in the long term, the widespread use of methanol gasoline is in line with **low-carbon and energy-saving development policies. Therefore, to achieve significant progress in the promotion of methanol-blended gasoline, **the introduction of relevant supportive policies will play a crucial role. http://www.ccin.com.cn/ccin/news/2010/09/15/144361.shtml
Methanol gasoline has been well adopted in Shanxi, thanks to the low cost of coal-based methanol as well as policy support within the province. A certain number of gas stations selling methanol gasoline have been established. It has reached a certain scale. With the introduction of the **standards for methanol gasoline in 2009, the issue of its legality was resolved to a certain extent. But there is still a long way to go before it can be widely adopted. Abroad, countries like the United States once used methanol-based gasoline for a period of time, and Italy and Japan did as well. They all gradually faded away one after another. It’s simply a technical issue; things like air resistance or swelling can be resolved and improved through various technical methods. But it involves engine modifications, as well as industry and the environment, and health issues. Therefore, the future of methanol gasoline is still uncertain.
Keep an eye on it – I almost got involved in this methanol fuel project before; there are still many issues at present. But if the technical problems can indeed be solved, this project has great potential
It’s simply a technical issue; things like air resistance or swelling can be resolved and improved through various technical methods. Our company has not changed the engine since 2008; we have relied on bench tests, and we have never received **’s support, which is why we have not moved forward with it
At present, China is unable to implement methanol gasoline due to the constraints posed by Sinopec and CNPC
Dr. Zi Lin New Energy: Products for sale: Methanol gasoline additives (M20, M30, M40, M85, M100). 1) M20 methanol gasoline (composed of methanol, additives, organic solvents, and straight-run gasoline). 2) M30 methanol gasoline (containing 68% straight-run gasoline, with the remainder made up of methanol, additives, and organic solvents). 3) M40 methanol gasoline (containing 57.3% straight-run gasoline, with the remainder made up of methanol, additives, and organic solvents). 4) M85 methanol gasoline (containing 15% gasoline, with the remainder made up of methanol and additives; suitable for use in vehicles equipped with dual-control systems during winter). 5) M100 methanol gasoline (composed of methanol and additives; suitable for use in vehicles equipped with dual-control systems). 2) These products are the result of research conducted by the company itself. Finished methanol gasoline is a mixed fuel of methanol and gasoline, produced by modifying the core agent mother liquor for methanol gasoline, utilizing its catalytic and cracking functions, as well as through specific formulation processes. Methanol gasoline solvents modify the molecular structure of methanol, converting it into a non-polar, oil-soluble organic fuel that can then combine with gasoline molecules to form stable molecular complexes. The synthesized methanol gasoline meets the standards for lead-free gasoline used in vehicles; its properties are identical to those of conventional gasoline, and it is miscible with conventional gasoline in any proportion without becoming cloudy. This solution completely addresses the issue of methanol’s corrosive effect on metals, as well as the problem of vapor blockages caused by methanol’s low boiling point.
