Reply 1# Mokuto-001: What the original poster is asking is whether the inlet and outlet pressures can maintain an internal circulation under design conditions (or normal operating conditions) Is that so? If that’s the case, then your title “Problems with Starting Centrifugal Compressors” isn’t correct?
Please clarify, the original poster – does it refer to operation with no load while driving?
My understanding is that self-circulation can be achieved when the inlet is open to a certain extent, but to reach the specified operating parameters, the inlet must be fully open and the flow rate cannot be too low; If the inlet is not used and the head is raised, the unit deviates too much from its operating condition, making surge prone to occur; this is a typical case of low flow rate with high head.
